gh attended the NCTI Technology Innovators Conference at the Madison Hotel in Washington, D.C. We exhibited our MathSpeak technology and its incorporation into the gh Player 2.2, as well as discussed MathSpeak's impact in providing advanced mathematics to individuals with visual disabilities.

gh attended Vision Impaired Solutions for Total Access (VISTA) on the Notre Dame Campus. Our presentation covering the gh Player was held at 12:00 in the Dooley Room and covered the rich new features of the gh Player 2.2 as well as the services we offer. We also exhibited from Noon to 7 PM in Room #202.

The National Center for Technology Innovation (NCTI) awarded gh a Technology in the Works 2008 award for the proposed research, Exploring the Benefits of Speech-Enabled Calculators (PDF of Abstract). Awarded jointly to Dr. Emily Bouck at Purdue University and gh, the results of the research generated through this award will be presented at the 2008 Technology Innovators conference in Washington, DC, on November 20-21. Dave Schleppenbach, President of gh, attended the NIMAS Standards Board meetings in Orlando, Florida. Dave presented about multiple technical aspects of NIMAS implementation including the NIMAS Structure Guidelines.

12/01/07 - Announcement
NIMAS Structure Guidelines finalized. After years of development, DAISY, CAST, AAP, and gh have collaborated to develop a new version of the DAISY Structure Guidelines. In addition to fleshing out numerous details for implementation of the DAISY Digital Talking Book Specification, the Structure Guidelines have also been developed with NIMAS in mind, as a tool for publishers, states, and consumers on how to produce and utlize NIMAS files for K-12 textbooks. The new Structure Guidelines are available for public review during January 2008 on the DAISY WWW Site.

ACS Chemistry Book released! After considerable development and testing, the ACS textbook, Chemistry in the Community, is now available for purchase in Digital Talking Book form directly from the publisher. Thanks to the efforts of the American Chemical Society and gh, students with disabilities can now access the gold standard among introductory Chemistry texbooks in a variety of accessible formats.

gh will be attending the Association of American Publishers 2007 Summit on Math and Science in Arlington, Virginia. gh will be participating in a panel discussion about market-based solutions for implementing accessibility for Math and Science textbook materials.

gh produces challenging mathematical materials in accessible formats for National Federation of the Blind (NFB). Through a contract with gh, the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) has prepared Braille-ready files of the 2006-2007 (MATHCOUNTS) School Handbook, which is used by teachers across the nation to supplement the middle school math curriculum and prepare students to participate in MATHCOUNTS competitions.
